HISTORY of the LONE STAR CHAPTER by Ron York 01 21 2011

The Lone Star Chapter, POCI chapter number 15, was formed in 1978 and has been an active chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club International ever since. As a club, we have had several meeting places over the years, usually eating establishments in the Richardson, North Dallas, Arlington and Grapevine areas. Without help from anyone else, we have seen a dozen restaurants go under during our watch. The club has always been a family-oriented club and has encouraged all family members to participate. We have had a variety of activities throughout the years starting with ice cream or hotdog/hamburger socials at members' homes. Since then we have we moved on to bigger and better things. The club has participated in local cruises and shows as well as sponsoring our own cruises in Grapevine a few years back. We have taken out-of-town road trips to places such as Jefferson, Tyler, Bastrop and the Texas State Railroad Museum. In addition, we travelled as a family group to shows throughout Texas and Oklahoma. The clubs members have also attended many POCI Conventions as far away as Florida, Colorado, California, and Minnesota. For a number of years we sponsored an All Pontiac Show at such locales as South Fork Ranch and the old GM Zone Office in Los Colinas which has morphed into the ‘Tiger Prowl’. We have actively worked with Pontiac dealers putting on several dealership shows. That luxury is long gone now. The LSC also participated in various Buick-Olds-Pontiac shows over the years. Since the 80’S we have had club displays in both the Dallas Autorama and The Fort Worth Rod and Custom Show.

There is a business meeting each month as well as a monthly recommended activity. The highlight of the year is our annual ‘After Christmas Party’ in January. Besides the great food, we usually have two or three car guy games and a Chinese gift exchange. It is always a great time. Our chapter had a very wide variety of Pontiacs from the 30's to showroom new. These cars include street rods, street machines, original cars, restored cars, high point show cars, used cars, fast cars, slow cars, big cars, little cars, and midsized cars. You name it, we have had it or will have it. Our membership roster includes many long-time members including three founding members. We would like to add your family, your Pontiac, your ideas and your enthusiasm to our roster.
